Welcome Debbie Cameron to WVJH as our new Associate Principal
West Valley Junior High Rams and families,
I am honored to have an opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Debbie Cameron and I am the new Associate Principal at West Valley Junior High.
I have been working in the West Valley School District for the last fourteen years at Wide Hollow Elementary. I moved from a teaching career to a position as an RTI coach a few years ago. I completed my principal’s internship under Rick Ferguson last year. I have two boys that graduated from West Valley High School.
I have had opportunities this month to meet with many of the junior high staff members. I have been incredibly impressed with their dedication, passion, and drive to ensure that all students have opportunities to be successful. Best practices are revealed in every conversation with staff including: relevant learning that reflects real world problems, blending of algebra, technology and science, support in each other’s innovative practices, and continuous education. We will work together to continue to build on this legacy of success by strengthening community relations and partnerships. In addition we will consistently examine and reflect on our practice to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all of our students.
I believe open communication is essential in every school and encourage you to reach out to our team at West Valley Junior High with any questions you may have. I am looking forward to meeting you all at our Open House on the 23rd of August!

WEST VALLEY JUNIOR HIGH FALL SPORTS
Welcome to West Valley Junior High Fall Sports! We are excited that you are interested in joining one of our sports teams. This document contains some general information that will answer most of the questions you may have.
SPORTS OFFERED (for both 7th and 8th grade):
Boys Football, Boys Soccer, Girls Fastpitch, Girls Volleyball, and Boys/Girls Cross Country.
WHERE DO I GO FOR THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE?
Football… go to locker room, get dressed, and head to your field. Both teams will then meet out on the football field. 7th and 8th grade players will have access to locker rooms after practice.
Volleyball: 7th grade gets dressed at junior high, takes all belongings to the Middle School where they will practice until 5:00. Parents pick you up at the front of the middle school. 8th grade gets dressed at the junior high and practices at the junior high until 5:00. 8th grade will have access to locker room after practice. There are 4 teams at each grade level.
Fastpitch: 7th and 8th grade gets dressed at the junior high locker room, takes all school belongings with them, then walks to the fastpitch fields directly across from the Middle School. Athletes can be picked up at the Middle School at 5:00.
Boys Soccer: 7th and 8th grade gets dressed at the junior high locker room, takes all school belongings with them, then walks to the soccer field directly across from the Middle School. Athletes can be picked up at the Middle School at 5:00.
Cross Country: 7th and 8th grade gets dressed at the junior high locker room and then meets their coach right outside the gym. Cross country practices ends at 4:15.
HOW OFTEN DO THEY PRACTICE? Every day unless otherwise directed by coaches.
WHAT TIME AND WHERE ARE GAMES? All games begin at 4:00. In an 8-game schedule, we will play 4 games here at either the Middle School or Junior High and we’ll also bus the athletes to 4 away games. We go as far as Prosser and Cle Elum and everything in between. Students are required to ride the bus to the away game, but it is OK to drive your own child home after an away game (if you sign the proper paper that the coach will provide at that game site).
WHAT IS THE COST TO PLAY? Athletes are required to have an ASB card ($25).
WHAT ABOUT GAME UNIFORMS? We will provide the entire uniform for all sports. Some sports may allow certain accessories to be used (volleyball knee pads, soccer shin guards, etc).
WHAT DO I WEAR TO PRACTICE? Unless otherwise directed by your coach, wear something that would be appropriate for a PE class, like shorts and a t-shirt and athletic shoes. Cleats and other specialized shoes are not necessarily required but definitely help the athlete with good traction on the playing field.
DO YOU MAKE CUTS? Unfortunately, in some sports we have way too many athletes turning out and so cuts need to be made. Coaches will explain early in the practice whether or not cuts will be made
PAPERWORK/REQUIREMENTS: activities clearance form (with all signatures) and current sports physical (good for 2 years)
