Recipe Taste Tests at Apple Valley Elementary

Throughout the school year, staff from the West Valley School District’s Child Nutrition Department organize students to complete “taste tests” of new recipes. In November, students at Apple Valley Elementary assisted with the taste tests.

Two recipes were submitted by families from West Valley and one recipe was submitted by a student from West Valley. Students gave their feedback about three recipes: Chocolate Chip Pancake, Butter Chicken, and Beef Stroganoff. The winner of the taste test – Chocolate Chip Pancakes – will be added to the future menu for all schools in West Valley!

This project highlighted the District’s efforts to use local suppliers for food. Cascade Milling supplied the milled flour that was used for the Chocolate Chip Pancakes.

The District would like to express appreciation for the leadership of Magieline Benedicto, Director of Child Nutrition, as well as all of the staff from the Child Nutrition Department who provide nutritious meals every day for our students. Thank you, also, to all of the students at Apple Valley Elementary who assisted with the taste test in November!
