West Valley School District - Junior Chef Competition
Recently, the West Valley School District's Child Nutrition Department hosted our first ever Junior Chef Competition. The competition was open to all students. All of the students who applied for the competition were from the sixth grade!
Our sixth grade teams displayed remarkable courage and determination, showcasing their passion for cooking. Each of the four teams presented their carefully crafted dishes to our panel of volunteer judges: Minerva Pardo, Director of Family and Community Engagement, Alyssa Kidder, Health and Wellness Coordinator, Teresa Maravelias, Child Nutrition Staff Member, Kensington Mochel, Fifth Grade Student, and Magnus Fulton, High School Senior and Student Representative to the West Valley School District Board of Directors.
While all the dishes were unique and delicious, a winner had to be selected. Team Tri-Fecta, consisting of Elizabeth Fleming, Emma Prilucik, Kayleigh Polage, stole the spotlight with their Pulled Chicken Taco.
Other notable contenders included:
Team Cyber Chefs -- Alden Ontiveros Houghton and Naomi Potter -- who presented a Pasta Pizza Casserole.
Team Crazy Cook -- Sophia Johnston -- with her Fajitadilla.
Team Rishi -- Rishi Kunhiraman -- who served-up a Tikka Roll.
West Valley's Director of Child Nutrition, Magieline Benedicto said, "We cannot wait to do it again next year. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who was involved with the competition!"
